What is a Skort?

A pair of shorts with a flap of fabric covering the front, giving the appearance of a skirt.

Where did the Skort originate?

Skorts can be traced back as far as the 1500's in European golf attire. They became popular during the World War 11 Era, used in women’s factories uniforms. Around the fifties, golf and tennis became popular outlets for skorts, and continued to be popular for these two sports up until the present. It wasn’t until the late 80’s and early 90’s that they were worn as regular, everyday clothing.

What are the Types/Styles?

Skorts can stick with the traditional style of a sheet of fabric covering the legs of shorts, to a full skirt with shorts underneath. They can be plain, such as a beige cargo skirt with cotton shorts underneath, or artsy with a handkerchief skirt and a bright cherry red pattern. They can be worn athletically, or worn with nicer, more professional clothing. It depends on the dressiness of the top it is worn with. A more athletic style will feature a full skirt with any type of print/pattern and be made of more comfortable, breathable fabric, while a more stylistic one will have a funky shape, and be made of starchy, heavier fabric.

What Can You Pair a Skort With?

Skirts look great with a polo, but can be worn with any type of collared shirt. They also look great with a fitted t-shirt, and a sweater. The best look is the athletic dri-fit tank top, and side slit tennis skort with some sleek tennis shoes.
